Hannah Grenfell

Hannah was the first graduate of the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork, in May of 1998.

I left the Waldorf School with many unforgettable memories, but one of my fondest is our trip to Ashland, Oregon, for the Shakespeare Festival. We rode the train from Glenwood Springs to Reno and I remember loving the sound of the train wheels on the tracks and sitting in the observation car with the rest of the class to look out over the landscape. It felt like looking at a painting. We rented a van in Reno and from there to Ashland, the ride seemed very long. Mrs. Fox made it easier by reading to us – someone else drove – and I even remember the name of the book, Naya Nuki.

The hills of Ashland looked to me like every picture of Ireland I had ever seen. The leaves on the trees in the park were bigger than my head and the air smelled damp and cold. The play I remember most was A Midsummer Night's Dream. I still remember what the costumes and lighting looked like. I thought the play was outstanding and it left me in awe, definitely inspired to pursue a life in theater. There are many things I remember from that trip, but mostly I think of how much it impacted my life. I learned that there are amazing experiences to be had outside of your own little realm of existence and if you explore them, they might just change your life.

I'm now a senior studying theatre at Mesa State College and on the president's list with a GPA of 3.93. I'm taking lessons in dance and vocal performance as well as theater. This summer I interned with a real estate broker in Aspen and have broadened my options to include real estate as well as professional acting.
